        <p><strong>PLEASE NOTE:  </strong>This is a new full-time
          position.  Initial consideration will be given to applications

        <p><strong>BASIC JOB FUNCTION:  </strong></p>
        <p><strong> </strong></p>
        <p>This is an exempt, professional scientific position with
          responsibilities to bridge the gap between climate science and
          water resource applications, in particular, to improve the
          utility of NCAR’s products and tools developed to support
          water resource planning and management. The work will include
          application of interdisciplinary science methods, including
          interviews and data analysis, to identify key applications of
          new science tools and provide feedback to model developers on
          possibilities for improvements and enhancements.  The
          incumbent is expected to write proposals, and communicate
          scientific results in both oral and written form by presenting
          papers at national and international scientific meetings and
          by publishing papers in scientific journals and books.</p>
        <p> </p>
        <p><strong>DUTIES INCLUDE:</strong></p>
        <p> </p>
        <ul>
          <li>Leads and conducts high-quality, independent and
            collaborative research related to the broad scope and
            functions of the job, specifically focusing on bridging the
            gap between climate science and applications.</li>
          <li>Designs and implements a review system to track the use
            and reported utility of climate change and hydrologic
            prediction science in the water sector, and provides
            suggestions for improvement and enhancement.</li>
          <li>Collaborates with other hydrologic and
            land-surface-process specialists in the application of
            atmospheric and hydrologic modeling systems.</li>
          <li>Publishes results in peer-reviewed journals and
            participates in national and international meetings on a
            regular basis.</li>
          <li>Maintains knowledge of current developments in topics of
            relevance to the research projects.</li>
          <li>Investigates new opportunities for funding and prepares
            and submits proposals; serves as Principal Investigator on
            funded proposals.</li>
          <li>Conducts reviews of papers for scientific journals</li>

        <ul>
          <li>PhD in atmospheric science, environmental science, or
            civil engineering, or equivalent combination of education
            and experience.</li>
          <li>Post-doctoral experience is highly desirable.</li>
        </ul>

        <p>Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:</p>
        <p> </p>
        <ul>
          <li>Advanced knowledge and experience with interdisciplinary
            science methods, including interviews and associated
            analysis techniques</li>
          <li>Advanced knowledge and ability to understand and
            communicate uncertainty </li>
          <li>Knowledge and experience with modeling tools used for
            water resources planning and management</li>
          <li>Ability to communicate and interact with a diverse group
            of scientists and stakeholders</li>
          <li>Willingness and ability to travel periodically to meet
            with other scientists and stakeholders</li>
          <li>Skill in performing tasks requiring organization and
            attention to detail</li>
          <li>Demonstrated ability to conduct high-quality, independent
            scientific and collaborative research (as evidenced by
            publications in refereed scientific journals)</li>
          <li>Skill in writing scientific papers and in making oral
            presentations     </li>
          <li>Ability to establish and maintain professional
            relationships within and outside the organization</li>
          <li>Excellent interpersonal skills</li>
