*Position Description*: We seek a tenure-track Assistant Professor (45%<br>
Research, 45% Teaching, and 10% service) in landscape ecology and<br>
geospatial analytics. The position is a 9-month appointment. The successful<br>
candidate will be expected to bring cutting-edge geospatial analysis and<br>
modeling approaches to our interdisciplinary strengths in forest/ecosystem<br>
science, natural resources management, quantitative decision-support,<br>
and/or environmental economics. We seek candidates with potential to<br>
develop a high-quality, individual extramurally-funded research program and<br>
to participate in interdisciplinary research and instructional activities.<br>
<br>
*Duties and Responsibilities:*<br>
<br>
The successful candidate will advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate<br>
students and teach 2-3 course per year, including:<br>
<br>
- an undergraduate course in Natural Resources Management with GIS each<br>
year;<br>
<br>
- a graduate level course in the area of the candidate's interest,<br>
emphasizing geospatial modeling, simulation, and/or visualization of<br>
landscape ecology dynamics.<br>
<br>
The successful candidate will obtain extramural funding to support research<br>
on using geospatial analytics to resolve and communicate pressing<br>
environmental challenges that may include (but are not limited to) climate<br>
change effects and their mitigation, conservation biology, land use-water<br>
interactions, bioenergy feedstock systems, ecosystem service provisioning,<br>
invasive species management, disturbance interactions, or sustainable urban<br>
ecosystems.These research areas are relevant to the strategic plans of the<br>
College of Natural Resources and the Department of Forestry and<br>
Environmental Resources, offering exceptional opportunities for extramural<br>
support and for collaboration with forestry and natural resource<br>
stakeholders. The successful candidate will build and maintain a program of<br>
engaged research that includes partners across the campus and beyond.<br>

The successful candidate will provide service to the department, college<br>
and/or university, and external professional organizations. It is also<br>
expected that the successful candidate will be involved in the mission of<br>
the Center for Geospatial Analytics (<a href="http://geospatial.ncsu.edu" rel="noreferrer" target="_blank">geospatial.ncsu.edu</a>) as a Faculty<br>
Fellow and active member of the growing geospatial research and education<br>
community.<br>

A Ph.D. at the time of hiring is required. Ideally, the successful<br>
applicant will have at least one degree in forestry, natural resources, or<br>
a closely related field.<br>

*The Department, College and University: *The Department of Forestry and<br>
Environmental Resources is a recognized leader in forest and wildlife<br>
sciences, ecology, geospatial analytics, and sustainable urban<br>
ecosystems. Approximately 58 faculty are engaged in teaching, research, and<br>
extension/outreach along with approximately 500 undergraduate students in<br>
four majors and 200 graduate students in five programs, four of which are<br>
shared with other academic units on campus. The department is housed in<br>
the College of Natural Resources which also contains the Department of<br>
Forest Biomaterials and Department of Parks, Recreation and Tourism<br>
Management. The college has approximately 220 faculty and staff working<br>
with 1400 undergraduate and 420 graduate students to provide solutions to<br>
natural resources challenges in North Carolina and the world. NC State<br>
University is located in Raleigh, NC in the Research Triangle region. It<br>
is a research extensive, land-grant university with ten academic colleges<br>
and approximately 34,000 students.<br>
