Research position in carbon
cycling research

One postdoctoral research position is available in the area of
climate controls on carbon cycling in the Florida coastal
everglades. The post-doctoral scientist will assist with
integrating research findings relevant to climate controls on
carbon sequestration in the Everglades, and analyzing and
interpreting data sets from flux towers and remote
sensing platforms. The full-time postdoctoral position also
entails collecting and synthesizing datasets from a variety of
sources, including meteorological and hydrological stations,
continuous ecosystem carbon exchanges at selected sites in the
Everglades, and remote sensing information. Numerical
modeling simulations are part of the research activities as well.
Excellent computing and field facilities are available to carry
out the research. The candidate is expected to interact with an
interdisciplinary team of scientists involving ecologists, climate
scientists, and hydrologists. The incumbent needs to have a PhD
degree in ecosystem science, hydrology, biogeochemistry,
atmospheric sciences, or a closely related field. Research
experience with field studies involving flux towers and management
of large data sets (exceeding several gigabytes) is highly
desirable. Also, experience in developing and/or running numerical
models designed to investigate climate and biogeochemical controls
on ecosystem state and function is preferable. Excellent oral and
written communication skills are important because the
incumbent will contribute to peerreviewed publications and
presentation of results at national conferences. The incumbent
will be based at the Everglades National Park office in
Homestead, FL and/or Florida International University in
Miami, FL. The salary will be competitive and
commensurate with relevant experience. To apply, interested
candidates need to electronically submit an application including:
