Feel free to email me with any questions.</div><div><br></div><div>-Karen</div><div><br></div><br>Assistant or Associate Professor – Radiative Transfer / Remote Sensing<br><br>The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences (CEOAS) at Oregon State University invites applications for a full-time (1.0 FTE), 12-month, tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor with a focus on radiative transfer and/or remote sensing.<br><br>We seek a new faculty member who will develop and maintain a vigorous, externally funded research program in remote sensing and/or modeling of processes directly linked to the Earth’s radiative energy budget. This position is motivated by the core importance of radiative transfer in the study of atmospheric processes and climate. Specific areas of research could include but are not restricted to: (1) Remote sensing of the atmosphere and surface fluxes; (2) Examining the radiative effects of aerosols and clouds on climate; (3) Designing and implementing remote sensing algorithms and methods; and (4) Developing parameterizations for clouds and radiative transfer in atmospheric models. The successful candidate will complement existing CEOAS research programs in atmosphere-ocean interaction, climate variability and change, and analysis of satellite and in situ observations. The successful candidate will also participate in the CEOAS undergraduate and graduate teaching program and may contribute to teaching courses in radiative transfer, remote sensing techniques, climate dynamics, and atmospheric physics. Advising and mentoring graduate students and/or post-doctoral scholars is also expected from the candidate.<br><br>The College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences is an internationally recognized leader in the study of the Earth as an integrated system. It operates numerous state-of-the art laboratories and two oceanographic research vessels, the 177-foot ocean-going Oceanus and the 54-foot coastal research vessel, Elakha. The College has an annual budget of more than $50 million, with support coming from the National Science Foundation, National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, National Aeronautics and Space Administration and other federal agencies. It has more than 100 faculty, 200 graduate students and 600 undergraduate students. Graduate programs include Master's and PhD degrees in Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences; Geology; and Geography and a Master's degree in Marine Resource Management. There is an expectation that the successful candidate will secure funding to support 60% of his/her full-time salary. For a 12-month position it is CEOAS policy to confer indefinite tenure when promoted to full Professor. Work towards distinction in research as evidenced by national and international recognition through significant contributions to radiative transfer, climate, or remote sensing. Publish scholarly work in peer-reviewed, top-ranked journals, conference proceedings and books appropriate for the areas of interest. Disseminate research results by participation at national and international professional conferences and symposia.<br><br>20% Teaching and Advising: Teach high quality graduate or undergraduate courses in field of expertise. Mentor and advise undergraduates, graduate students, and/or post-doctoral scholars.<br><br>7.5% Service: Provide service to the college and/or university to sustain and promote the research and educational missions.
