<div dir="ltr"><span style="font-size:13px">A fully funded PhD position is available to carry out experimental studies on the release of atmospheric </span><span style="font-size:13px">nitrogen bearing trace gases from polar snow. The focus will be on nitrous acid gas (HONO), a particularly </span><span style="font-size:13px">reactive nitrogen species, which has been observed previously at surprisingly high levels in air above snow, </span><span style="font-size:13px">suggesting a large snowpack source may be present. The aim of this project is to quantify the HONO snow </span><span style="font-size:13px">source in the lab using natural snow samples as well as at the BAS Halley research station in coastal </span><span style="font-size:13px">Antarctica (75ºS). Antarctic field work is intended but subject to the inherent logistical or weather related </span><div style="font-size:13px">uncertainties. This project is offered as a CASE award, as a collaboration between the University of Birmingham (Dr Bill Bloss) and the British Antarctic Survey in Cambridge (Dr Markus Frey).
