The selected applicant will oversee two Thermo Electron V Plus</div><div style="margin:0px;font-size:11px;font-family:Calibri">isotope ratio mass spectrometers equipped with an Elemental Analyzer (EA), a GasBench II, and an Agilent Gas</div><div style="margin:0px;font-size:11px;font-family:Calibri">Chromatograph with combustion interface. Initial assignment will be for three years with the possibility of extension</div><div style="margin:0px;font-size:11px;font-family:Calibri">pending grant and/or contract support.</div><div style="margin:0px;font-size:11px;font-family:Calibri"><b>Performance of research in specialized areas</b>: Primary responsibilities will include instrument maintenance, laboratory</div><div style="margin:0px;font-size:11px;font-family:Calibri">oversight, user training, and sample preparation and analysis. Primary analyses will include isotopic determination of: C</div><div style="margin:0px;font-size:11px;font-family:Calibri">and O on carbonates, C and N on organic matter in ancient and recent sediments, and C on organic molecules.</div><div style="margin:0px;font-size:11px;font-family:Calibri">Additional responsibilities will include: ordering supplies, maintaining data records of samples and standards, tracking</div><div style="margin:0px;font-size:11px;font-family:Calibri">invoices, enforcing laboratory safety standards and maintaining an up-to-date chemical inventory.</div><div style="margin:0px;font-size:11px;font-family:Calibri"><b>Professional competence and activity: </b>The successful applicant will assist faculty, post-docs, and graduate students in</div><div style="margin:0px;font-size:11px;font-family:Calibri">developing, writing, and editing research papers and in giving oral and poster presentations at conferences. The</div><div style="margin:0px;font-size:11px;font-family:Calibri">employee will be encouraged to participate in/present at conferences on isotope ratio mass spectrometry and its</div><div style="margin:0px;font-size:11px;font-family:Calibri">applications. Several years of experience in the operation/maintenance of isotope ratio mass spectrometers and</div><div style="margin:0px;font-size:11px;font-family:Calibri">experience in analysis of sediment/rock samples for paleoenvironmental reconstruction.
