At the Institute of
Marine Research we are seeking a person to be employed in a Post Doc
position, alternatively a PhD candidate, to work on application of
stabile isotopes (C, N) in studies of food webs in the Barents Sea and
the Arctic Ocean. The position is for three years and is placed in the
‘Ecosystem Processes’ research group at IMR with work place in Tromsø.
If there are no qualified applicants for the position as a Post Doc, we
will consider employing a PhD candidate within the same field of
research.

The position is within two strategic projects at IMR - ”The
Arctic Ocean Ecosystem” (SI_Arctic) and ”Trophic interactions in the
Barents Sea - steps towards an Integrated Ecosystem Assessment” (TIBIA).
The aim of the position is to contribute to improved description and
understanding of the food webs, trophic interactions and pelagic-benthic
couplings in our northern marine ecosystems.

For the Post Doc position we are seeking a person with PhD in
marine ecology and experience in the use of stable carbon and nitrogen
isotopes in studies of food webs. The work will include sampling and
analysis of stabile isotopes from key species of the food web along a
gradient from the southern boreal to the northern Arctic parts of the
Barents Sea ecosystem and adjacent areas of the Arctic Ocean.

Alternatively (if there are no qualified candidates for the Post
Doc position) we are offering a PhD position for a person with relevant
scientific background and interest in specializing in application of
stabile isotopes in marine food studies.

The successful applicant will work in broad research teams in the
two projects which include international partners. In the case of a PhD
the candidate must fulfill the requirements for acceptance at the
University of Tromsø. The position requires participation in cruises and
field work in the context of the two strategic projects.
We offer
• a challenging and creative working environment
• work at a national institute with extensive international contacts
• a good working environment
• flexible working hours, good pensions and welfare schemes

The position as post doctor or PhD candidate is paid in accordance with the civil service pay scale.
