<p><b>Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Climate Dynamics)</b><br>
<br>
</p>
<p>The George Mason University, Center for Ocean-Land-Atmosphere
Studies (<span>COLA</span>) in the College of Science seeks a
Postdoctoral Research Fellow to work on the National Science
Foundation/U.S. Department of Agriculture project entitled, “Land
Use Change and Land-Atmosphere Feedback Processes as Regulators of
Regional Climate Change.” <br>
</p>
<p>The project will explore how regional changes in land use over
the coming decades could alter land-atmosphere interactions
against the backdrop of a warming climate. Specifically, important
climate processes over land will be examined with observational
data and climate models to quantify: (1) the relationships between
soil moisture, vegetation, and surface fluxes; (2) the connection
between surface fluxes and the development of the atmospheric
boundary layer, clouds and precipitation; and (3) the role of the
biogeophysical elements in these processes. <br>
</p>
<p><b>Qualifications: </b> <br>
A Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences, hydrology, or a related
discipline is required. The successful candidate will conduct
coupled land-atmosphere modeling, assessment of climate
sensitivity to variations at the land surface, and the role of
component models and parameterizations in land-atmosphere
feedbacks. Familiarity with coding and running global climate
models and land-surface schemes is necessary. Computer programming
skills and familiarity with <span>UNIX</span> will be necessary.
<br>
</p>
<p>The position will involve direct collaboration with colleagues at
the National Center for Atmospheric Research (<span>NCAR</span>).<br>
</p>
<p> For full consideration, applicants must apply for position
number F9879z at <a href="http://jobs.gmu.edu/" target="_blank">http://jobs.gmu.edu/</a>;
complete and submit the online application; and upload a cover
letter, CV, and a list of three professional references with
contact information by 27 January 2015.</p>
