<div><b>Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Rice Ecology and Biogeochemistry (YBS660R)</b></div>
<div>This exciting research opportunity will require a person with a strong interest in studying the ecology and biogeochemistry of sustainable rice ecosystems. The main focus of this post is to investigate the impacts of alternate wetting and drying
(AWD) on the dynamics of carbon, nitrogen, and trace gases in European rice ecosystems. Furthermore, the post holder will explore how cultivar type and plant functional traits influence: soil microbial activity, patterns of organic matter degradation, and
plant-soil nitrogen dynamics (uptake, mineralization, reduction, gas exchange). The post-holder will join a multi-institution, multi-disciplinary international research consortium (GreenRice) investigating the wider implications of AWD for the ecology and
sustainable cultivation of rice, including exploring the impacts of AWD on yield and nutritional quality, mycorrhizal and nematode dynamics, fungal pathogens, salt stress, and detailed studies of roots and the rhizosphere. The post holder will play a key role
in designing and implementing field and laboratory studies, with fieldwork planned in the rice growing regions of southern Europe (France, Italy, Spain). The postholder will also be expected to work collaboratively with other investigators across the consortium
taking part in joint research activities. In addition, the post holder will take part in integrative activities that place the findings of this research within the wider context of other AWD studies globally, including related research in Bangladesh. The post
holder will be expected to present their findings at major national and international conferences; and publish their results in high impact, international, peer-reviewed publications (e.g. Nature, Science, Global Change Biology, New Phytologist).</div>
