<p>The Alfred Wegener Institute for Polar and Marine Research (AWI)
is a member of the Helmholtz Association (HGF) and funded by
federal and state government. AWI focuses on polar and marine
research in a variety of disciplines such as biology,
oceanography, geology and geophysics thus allowing
multidisciplinary approaches to scientific goals.<br>

For our new joint project of the sections „Paleoclimate Dynamics“,
“Glaciology”, “Physical Oceanography” and “Periglacial Research”,
we seek to appoint a <br>
<br>
<b>Research Scientist (oxygen and deuterium isotope measurements,
Arctic water cycle)</b><br>
<br>
<b>
Background: </b><br>
The position will be part of the project Iso-Arc („From source to
sink - decoding the isotopic fingerprint of the eastern Arctic
water cycle“) funded by the AWI Strategy Fund. The overall goal of
this project is a first-time detailed detection and description of
the eastern Arctic water cycle, its isotopic composition (H2O-18,
HDO), and imprint in various climate archives.<br>
<br>
<b>Tasks: </b><br>
You will be responsible for the set up and maintenance of two
Picarro instruments on board of the research vessel Polarstern and
the Samoylov station in Eastern Siberia. After successful
installation these instruments will run autonomously and can be
controlled remotely from AWI Bremerhaven. You will also be in
charge of compiling other available Arctic isotope data,
performing model-data comparison and analyses, and publishing key
scientific results.<br>
<br>
<b>Requirements:</b><br>
• PhD in Physics, Meteorology, Oceanography, Math or a related
field<br>
• experience/interest in isotope measurements with laser
spectrometers (e.g. Picarro or LGR instruments) and climate
modelling<br>
• proficiency in English (oral and written)<br>
<br>
Furthermore this position requires the possibility and willingness
to participate in research cruises on board the Polarstern and to
perform fieldwork at the Samoylov research station.<br>
<br>
The position is limited to 3 years. The salary will be paid in
accordance with the German Tarifvertrag des öffentlichen Dienstes
(TVöD Bund). The Places of employment will be <b>Bremerhaven</b>.<br>
