The Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental
Sciences ( CIRES ) at University of Colorado Boulder is
seeking a part-time Professional Research Assistant to
work in the NOAA Earth System Research Laboratory/Physical
Sciences Division ( PSD ). This is a part-time,
benefits-eligible 50% position.<span

Background<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>
The Climate Analysis Branch within PSD is developing a
web-based system for displaying observational data sets
and fields obtained from the climate model
inter-comparison project ( CMIP ). The goal is to provide
easy access to climate variability and change information
to scientists, managers, stake holders and the general
public. We are seeking a team member to help develop this
“climate change web portal” with expertise in processing
large climate datasets and presenting them via the
internet.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>

Responsibilities<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>
• Download, process, and analyze observations and climate
model simulations.<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>
• Quality control of atmospheric, oceanic and
biogeochemical variables<span
class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>
• Compute climate and marine ecosystem metrics<span
class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>
• Help to derive measures of climate variability and
change that are useful to scientists and the broader
community<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>
• Assist in the development of computer code/scripts to
visualize climate data via the internet<span
class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>
• Demonstrate the climate change web portal to potential
users<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>
Minimum Qualifications<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>

• Masters in atmospheric science, oceanography, or similar
field<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>
• Knowledge of meteorology, physical oceanography, marine
biogeochemistry,<span class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>
• Knowledge of and experience with scripting languages
(especially Python), operating systems (Linux/mac OSX ),
visualization software (such as NCL ), geophysical data
formats (such as NetCDF)<span
class="Apple-converted-space"> </span><br>

• Good verbal and written communication skills. Ability to
communicate effectively with scientists of diverse

• Ability to work both independently and as part of a
