scientists to investigate aspects of the tropical Pacific
biases in newly developed GFDL climate models (AM4/CM4). The
biases include the equatorial Pacific cold and dry bias, the
double ITCZ, the overly strong trades and excessive tropical
mean precipitation, and the bias related to model simulations
of Madden-Julian-Oscillation. The investigations will focus on
impacts of convection and cloud parameterization on the bias
development. The expectations are to conduct various
sensitivity experiments and budget/process analyses with a
goal to better understand the interactions among tropical
convection, clouds, and their interactions with radiation,
large-scale circulation, and energy fluxes at air sea surface
in fully coupled GCMs. Results of the experiments and analysis
of the biases in the models will be presented and reported to
the project PI and through publications and workshops.</p>
