candidate will provide the NMFS Office of Science and Technology with
technical and logistical support to assess needs and best approaches
to assess climate vulnerability and to design and conduct pilot climate
vulnerability assessments for marine protected species. This is
expected to ultimately result in development of vulnerability
assessments for all of NMFS’ protected species taxa and regions.
The candidate will contribute to other efforts to better understand and
prepare for climate impacts on protected resources, such as projects to
assess best practices and methodologies for projecting climate-related
impacts on the distribution and phenology
of protected species working in collaboration with the Office of
Protected Resources.<br>

The candidate will work closely with leading federal and academic
scientists in climate, marine sciences, and conservation biology. The
candidate will facilitate communication and further the development of
more detailed and rigorous climate vulnerability assessments.
This will be a high-profile activity within NMFS and will involve
frequent interactions with NMFS leadership. Because the outcome of this
effort must ultimately serve managers’ needs to develop effective
conservation and protection strategies, the project
will also involve considerable coordination between scientists and
managers. Thus, there will also be frequent interactions with the
management side of the agency, including the Office of Protected
