please note the offering of two PostDoc positions (100 %, TV-L E13, 3 years) in Geography and Geoecology involving metal and CHONS stable isotope biogeochemistry at the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), fowarded on behalf of Prof. Wolfgang Wilcke (Soil Science, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Germany). Here is the detailed offering:

"The KIT Institute of Geography and Geoecology invites applications for

two postdoctoral positions (TV-L E 13, 100 %) - Stable Metal Isotope Biogeochemistry and Biodiversity-Ecosystem Functioning Relationship -

The positions can be filled immediately. The appointments are for three years with the possibility of renewal. The candidates will be part of a newly forming working group for Soil Science.

Stable Metal Isotope Biogeochemistry: The successful candidate will conduct independent research on the control of metal cycling in terrestrial ecosystems under environmental change with the help of the natural abundance of metals (focus on Ca, Mg, Cd, Cu, Zn). The position holder will be involved in the construction of a new Multicollector-ICP/MS laboratory. The position includes a four hours per week teaching duty in the study programs of Geoecology, Physical Geography and Applied Geosciences and a contribution to academic self administration. We expect that the applicants for this position are fluent in German.

Biodiversity-Ecosystem Functioning Relationship: The successful candidate will be responsible for a long-term ecosystem research project (BECycles, Biodiversity Exploratories, site Schwäbische Alb, funded by the German Research Foundation, DFG) in which we assess the combined influences of land-use intensity and biodiversity on the nutrient cycles in grasslands and forests in cooperation with the Universities of Berlin (TU), Jena, and Bonn. The long-term ecosystem research project started in 2009 is already fully operational and has collected valuable data series which are available for immediate evaluation. The position holder will have to coordinate (and contribute to) the sampling and analytical efforts and develop an independent research program within the running project which includes the application of stable isotope methods (C, N, S, H, O, metals – natural abundance and/or tracer experiments). The position holder will be involved in the expansion of the stable isotope laboratory for C, N, S, H, and O at the KIT. A contribution to teaching is desirable.

>From both position holders we expect a contribution to raise extramural funding. Competitive applicants will hold a Ph.D. in a relevant subject (Geosciences, Environmental Sciences, Chemistry, Biology) and have first successful publications in international science journals.

KIT aims at balancing the number of female and male employees. We therefore kindly ask female applicants to apply for this job. If qualified, handicapped applicants will be preferred.

The positions are open until filled. First review of application materials will be 30 June, 2014. Please send the application (attached as a single pdf-file) to wolfgang.wilcke@kit.edu. The application should include a motivation letter, CV, copies of certificates, list of publications, details about your teaching experiences, contact details of two referees, and a research proposal (one page, written in English) in which the applicant elaborates on a few research problems to address. Please mention whether you should be considered for one or both of the positions. For further enquiries, please contact Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Wilcke, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Institute of Geography and Geoecology, wolfgang.wilcke@kit.edu."
