<div dir="ltr"><div class="gmail_quote"><div dir="ltr"><p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif;font-size:large">The
Department of Geology at Bates College invites applications for a one-year sabbatical
replacement position in low temperature geochemistry, beginning fall 2014. The
successful candidate must demonstrate potential for teaching excellence in a
vigorous undergraduate program, welcome the opportunity for close interaction
with serious students in a senior thesis advisory role, and share with other
members of the department responsibility for General-Education courses.
Field-based and laboratory projects, and collaboration with departmental
colleagues offer a wide range of instructional opportunities. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif"><font size="4">The
successful candidate will teach an introductory course in global
change/environmental geology, a sophomore/junior level course in environmental
geochemistry, a 300-level course in an area of their specialty and a 5 week
field/lab course in an area of their own expertise. Facilities include a
staff-supported Environmental Geochemistry Laboratory with ICP-OES,
EA/GC-c-IRMS, and GC-FID, as well as staff-supported Imaging and Computation
Center, GIS and mobile GIS capabilities. A full-time departmental assistant in
instruction provides logistical support for the introductory laboratories.</font></span></p>
<p><font size="4"><span style="font-family:'Times New Roman',serif">Completion,
or near completion, of a PhD in the earth sciences is required for this
