Applications are invited for a post-doctoral scholar position at the University of Chicago’s<br>
Computation Institute. The position is for 2 years initially, with possible extension of one year based<br>
on performance. The position is expected to begin in September, 2014 and the review of applications<br>
will begin immediately.<br>
The project’s goal is to study the transition of stratocumulus to cumulus clouds in the North Pacific<br>
using the data collected during an aircraft field campaign scheduled to be held in summer, 2015. The<br>
candidate is expected to actively participate the field campaign and assist in operating and analyzing<br>
data from the various instruments onboard the aircraft particularly the Doppler cloud radar and lidar.<br>
We will use the data to deduce in-cloud vertical air motion and atmospheric radiative heating rate<br>
profiles among other meteorological parameters.<br>
The successful applicant will have a PhD in atmospheric or related science, preferably with prior<br>
experience in data analysis of relevant observations, and good skills in scientific deduction and<br>
communication of scientific findings. Preference will be given to candidates with previous<br>
experience in all or some of the following areas 1) analyzing data collected by Doppler cloud radars<br>
and lidars, 2) using radiative transfer models and 3) working with data from aircraft in-situ<br>
instruments.<br>
