Center at SUNY University of Albany invites applications for a postdoctoral
research position in satellite remote sensing and modeling of terrestrial
hydrology. </p><p class="MsoNormal"><br></p><p class="MsoNormal">This climate-relevant
research will involve extensive data mining, data analysis, numerical weather
forecast model evaluation and refinement, and satellite data assimilation in
support of the international GEWEX GLASS workgroup initiatives. Strong programming skills in a UNIX/Linux
environment (e.g., C, Fortran, Matlab, and shell scripts) as well as excellent
written and oral communication skills are required. Knowledge and understanding
of coupled land-atmospheric processes and coupled forecast/climate models is
essential. Specialized knowledge in boundary-layer physics, 4-D Var, and
hyperspectral remote sensing of water vapor/clouds is preferred. The ideal
candidate will have advanced skills in either: the compilation and execution of
the Weather Research and Forecasting (WRF) Model or data assimilation of satellite
observations. It is expected that the appointee will publish lead and
co-authored papers with their advisor and contribute to grant writing efforts.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><br></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Candidates must hold a recent
Ph.D. in Civil and Environmental Engineering, Atmospheric Sciences, Hydrology,
Meteorology, Applied Mathematics, Physics, or other climate-related science.
The Ph.D. must have been earned within three years of initial appointment to
this postdoctoral position.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">The position is available
immediately and will be an initial 12-month appointment with the possibility of
renewal pending satisfactory performance. Applications must be submitted online
via Interview Exchange and should include a statement of research experience
and interest, a current CV, and names and contact information (address, email,
and telephone) for three professional references. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">For priority consideration,
applications should be submitted by January 31.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><br></p>
