</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 12.000000pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman'">The Department of Earth Science at the University of Northern Iowa invites applications for a
tenure-track, assistant professor appointment beginning August 2014. This position will support
all majors in the Department, including an Environmental Science B.A. major with an Air
Quality track.
</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 12.000000pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman'">Required: A Ph.D. in atmospheric science/meteorology, air quality, environmental engineering,
or a field closely related to air quality is required at time of appointment. Teaching experience
and experience with equipment used for air sampling and analysis also required.
</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 12.000000pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman'">Preferred: Familiarity with dispersion models, especially those used in regulatory work (e.g.,
AERMOD, CALPUFF), and at least one year of college/university teaching experience
preferred.
</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 12.000000pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman'">Duties and Responsibilities: Teach undergraduate courses </span><span style="font-size: 12.000000pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman'">on weather for the University’s
</span><span style="font-size: 12.000000pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman'">Liberal Arts Core as well as advanced courses on measurement and analysis of air quality, air
dispersion modeling, and field studies in air quality. Develop a research program in air
quality/atmospheric science that produces publishable results. Seek external funding, supervise
undergraduate research, and coordinate undergraduate internships. Actively participate in
recruiting events to increase the number of students majoring in all areas of the Department.
</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 12.000000pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman'">Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. The University offers excellent

</span></p><p><span style="font-size: 12.000000pt; font-family: 'Times New Roman'">The Department of Earth Science has seven full-time faculty (three geologists, two astronomers,
one meteorologist, and one earth science educator), a lab technician, and approximately 60
majors that are divided among earth science, earth science teaching, and environmental science.
The Department prides itself on teaching excellence and the involvement of undergraduates in
research. Equipment available for research projects includes an ultraviolet lidar for aerosol
studies, a microwave temperature profiler, a trailer-mounted sodar, and particulate samplers.
The Department is also home to the Science center for Teaching, Outreach, and Research on
Meteorology (The STORM Project). All lecture rooms are outfitted with LCD projection
systems and faculty have use of laptop computers and on-line learning resources (Blackboard).
