<p class="MsoNormal" style="mso-margin-top-alt:auto;mso-margin-bottom-alt:auto">The experimental rock deformation and experimental petrology labs at Washington University in Saint Louis, Department of Earth and Planetary Science, invite applications for a full
time Research Engineer to oversee the operation of high pressure/temperature apparatuses and associated equipment. Current and anticipated equipment within these labs includes a Griggs rig, a high PT torsion apparatus, piston cylinder, Mo-Hf-Carbide externally
heated pressure vessels, and 1-atmosphere gas-mixing furnaces. A graduate degree in rock mechanics or experimental petrology is preferred. Strong technical capabilities and familiarity with solid medium apparatuses are required. Knowledge of high temperature
controllers, electrical engineering, data acquisition, hydraulic equipment, and computer programming, including LabView, are pluses. The candidate will be responsible for the overall operation of these labs, including but not limited to (1) maintaining and
improving equipment (2) training students and postdocs and (3) general lab management and inventory oversight. Opportunities exist to carry out an independent research program. Salary is highly competitive, and commensurate with experience. Initial appointment
