The <http://web.ics.purdue.edu/~dchavas/> Climate and Extreme Weather
Laboratory in the <http://www.eaps.purdue.edu/> Department of Earth,
Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences (EAPS) at Purdue University seeks a
highly-motivated candidate for a post-doctoral research position. The
research will focus on understanding climate controls of severe thunderstorm
environments on Earth via the design, execution, and analysis of idealized
General Circulation Modeling (GCM) experiments. The candidate will work
closely with Prof. Dan Chavas at Purdue University and collaborator Prof.
<https://you.stonybrook.edu/kareed/> Kevin Reed at Stony Brook University,
and will have opportunities to mentor graduate and undergraduate students
also working on the project.

The candidate is required to have a Ph.D. in atmospheric science or a
closely related field by December 2019. The candidate should have:

(1) Experience conducting research in atmospheric science or closely related
field.

(2) Experience running and analyzing atmospheric numerical models.

(3) Proficient verbal and written communication skills as evidenced by
published results and presentations.

Candidates with experience in climate modeling or large-scale dynamics and
interests in extreme weather are particularly encouraged to apply.

Interested applicants should contact Prof. Dan Chavas (
<mailto:dchavas at purdue.edu> dchavas at purdue.edu) to submit an application and
to answer any questions. Applications must include:

(1) a statement of research experience and interests;

(2) a current CV; and

(3) a list of names and contact information for three referees.

Purdue EAPS is a leader in the study of the dynamics of the Earth's
atmosphere across scales and is actively developing a new research and
teaching program in the area of extreme weather and climate. Moreover,
Purdue University boasts <https://www.rcac.purdue.edu/> one of the best
collections of high-performance research computing systems in the country
maintained by a strong and active computing support staff to serve all your
computing needs.
