Managing Director, Energy and Environment
*         Reports to: Senior Vice President, Energy and Environment Policy
*         Department: Energy and Environment
*         Position classification: Exempt, full time
Summary
American Progress has an immediate opening for a Managing Director for Energy and Environment. The Energy and Environment team is devoted to mitigating climate change, building community resilience to the effects of climate change, and protecting the country's public lands and oceans. The ideal candidate for the Managing Director position will bring experience and a strong commitment to working on energy and climate change issues and balancing a diverse portfolio of strategic planning, staff development, budgeting, and project management.
Responsibilities:

  *   Coordinate the day-to-day management of the Energy and Environment team, including by playing a leading role in overseeing team members' work planning and professional development.
  *   Collaborate with the Senior Vice President for Energy and Environment Policy on strategic planning.
  *   Coordinate across American Progress with the Executive team and other teams on climate and energy policy.
  *   Develop and write climate and energy policy ideas in collaboration with policy leads and researchers.
  *   Support the Senior Vice President in fundraising, grant reporting, and managing strong fundraising relationships.
  *   Assist the Senior Vice President in the editorial oversight of written products.
  *   Oversee the team's budget and general administration, including tracking of team products, metrics, and grant spending.
  *   Liaise with American Progress' senior management and other American Progress teams.
  *   Represent the Energy and Environment team to the press, policymakers, academics, and other outside stakeholders.
  *   Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements and qualifications:

  *   At least eight years of political, government, and/or nonprofit experience in climate and energy policy.
  *   Management and leadership experience, as well as a strong commitment to supervising and developing staff.
  *   Demonstrated excellence in research, editing, writing, and analytic ability.
  *   Ability to multitask and prioritize projects.
  *   Exceptional project management experience with a strong attention to detail and the ability to manage quick-turnaround deliverables, long-term strategy implementation, reporting, and metrics tracking.
  *   Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well on a team in a fast-paced environment.
  *   Commitment to American Progress' mission and the Energy and Environment team's goals.
