*MS Graduate Research Position*

The Hladik Lab in the Department of Geology and Geography at Georgia
Southern University invites applications for a Master of Science in Applied
Geography. We are seeking a student with an interest in the remote sensing
of tidal habitats. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, (1)
assisting in the collection of ground survey data on tidal marsh and forest
habitats and elevation, (2) processing and interpreting drone, aerial,
satellite, and LIDAR imagery, and (3) producing habitat, elevation, and
biophysical maps using image analysis software and routines. This research
will be conducted in cooperation with the Georgia Coastal Ecosystems LTER,
an NSF supported research project based at the University of Georgia Marine
Institute (https://ugami.uga.edu/).



The position is available to start Fall Semester 2019. Summer 2019 field
work options are also available. Summer semester funding is available with
a tuition waiver. Teaching assistantships are available for the academic
year on a competitive basis.



*Requirements*

   - Bachelor of Science degree (completed prior to start date) from an
   accredited institution.
   - Background in remote sensing and GIS.
   - Strong communication skills, both written and oral
   - Ability to conduct field work
   - Ability to work independently and as a member of a diverse team



*Preferred Skills and Experience*

   - Ability to identify and quantify tidal marsh and forest vegetation
   - Proficiency in ArcGIS, ENVI, QT Modeler, and R
   - Familiarity with the setup and operation of an RTK GPS and processing
   of RTK GPS data using ArcGIS.
   - Familiarity with drone, aerial, and LIDAR imagery
   - Proficiency in Microsoft Applications and statistics software
   - Enthusiasm for research, publishing, and public scholarship
   - Field work experience is an advantage.
