Postdoctoral Position in Sub-seasonal Forecasting at George Mason
University/Center for Ocean-Atmosphere-Land Studies

The Department of Atmospheric, Oceanic and Earth Sciences at George Mason
University and Center for Ocean-Land Atmosphere Studies (COLA) is seeking
applications for a Post-Doctoral Associate to study the impact of ocean
resolution on the sub-seasonal forecast skill of the NOAA's new generation
forecast system. Candidates must have a PhD in atmospheric sciences or a
related subject. The successful candidate will use a coupled atmosphere,
ocean and sea ice model to conduct high-resolution sub-seasonal forecasts
and evaluate the skill of forecasts following the operational requirements.
Advanced programming skills including code development and shell scripting
is required and experience with the Modular Ocean Model (MOM) is considered
an asset. Writing and presentation skills as exemplified by publications and
presentations record is expected. Experience in managing and processing
large data sets is an advantage.
