2 fully funded 3.5 year PhD studentships, APPLICATION DEADLINE: 31 January 2019

I am seeking motivated applicants for 2 PhD studentships currently open in my research group (https://www.staff.ncl.ac.uk/anke.neumann/), which focuses on redox processes at the mineral-water interface and how these processes impact water quality.

Project 1: Harnessing microbially mediated redox processes for sustainable water treatment
This project will be carried out in collaboration with Dr James Kitson (https://www.ncl.ac.uk/nes/staff/profile/jameskitson) and is funded by EPSRC.

To apply, please visit: https://www.ncl.ac.uk/postgraduate/funding/sources/ukeustudents/epsrcdt19.html

I am seeking a candidate with a background in environmental chemistry, geochemistry, microbiology or a related discipline (minimum 2:1 honours degree or international equivalent), with experience in the laboratory. The applicant should be motivated to engage in interdisciplinary work and to conduct extensive laboratory work, including aqueous and solid phase analyses (HPLC, ICP-MS, XRD, Mössbauer spectroscopy) and molecular biology techniques (DNA/RNA sequencing, metabarcoding). Experience in any of these techniques would be advantageous.

Project 2: Understanding the role of clay mineral redox reactions for metal contaminant fate
This project is funded by the NERC ONE Planet DTP and can be enhanced with the applicant’s input.

I am seeking an applicant with a background in environmental chemistry, geochemistry, soil science or a related discipline, with experience in the laboratory.

Please forward to anyone who could be interested. For any questions, please contact me.
