DESCRIPTION

We are seeking a full-time Assistant Specialist for a funded project at the
National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS), University of
California, Santa Barbara through the Conservation Aquaculture Research Team
(CART). The project is a continuation of current research focused on
spatially mapping and quantifying the impacts, potential adaptations, and
mitigation measures for aquaculture under climate change, at local to global
scales. Thus, the research encompasses different types of aquaculture at
different ecological scales and environments.

The candidate will be based at NCEAS in Santa Barbara, CA and will engage
with ongoing and emerging research projects as well as have the opportunity
to pursue her/his own research related to the project theme. This position
will be responsible for: 1) expanding the spatial modelling and mapping of
climate change threats to global brackish and freshwater aquaculture; 2)
down scaling climate change impacts to specific regions of interest (e.g.,
SE Asia); and 3) develop her/his own project of interest that can include,
but not limited to, linkages to other food systems or focus on the land-sea
interface. This full-time position offers competitive salary and benefits
commensurate with experience. The appointment is for 18 months, with the
possibility of extension pending available funds and strong performance. The
successful candidate will work with Ben Halpern and Halley Froehlich,
integrated with his research lab and the CART initiative - which offers
opportunities to work across other on-going and related projects, including
"Environmental Impact and Sustainability of Global Food Systems."

RESIDENCY AT NCEAS: NCEAS is located in scenic downtown Santa Barbara,
California. The Center is known for fostering interaction and collaboration,
a characteristic that leads to the success of its visiting scientists. NCEAS
has a growing and thriving community of postdocs, resident scientists, and
analysts, and frequent influx of leading scientists and practitioners from
around the world participating in working group projects. We expect the
candidate to contribute their knowledge, interests, and enthusiasm to the
intellectual atmosphere. This Assistant Specialist should anticipate
spending the vast majority of their time working at the Center.
