The Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology invites applications for a staff Scientist in the Tropospheric Composition group in the Earth Science Section at JPL. In this position, you will be responsible for evaluating and improving retrievals of atmospheric composition, with a focus on greenhouse gases, including the CO2 measurements from the OCO-2 and OCO-3 missions in conjunction with companion species such as CO, NO2 and O3 from instruments such as CrIS, AIRS and TROPOMI. You will work closely with the project teams including calibration, algorithm, validation and mission planning. You will be work in a dynamic, multidisciplinary team environment, addressing cross-cutting challenges in the anthropogenic footprint of carbon and its relationship to air quality and climate, harnessing multiple measurements, models and data assimilation systems across multiple scales. Based on these investigations, you will contribute to cross-discipline teams in the definition of new science priorities and in the development of new mission concepts needed to advance them.

This position requires the following qualifications:
•	PhD in Atmospheric Science, Geophysics or a related technical discipline
•	Advanced knowledge of one or more of the following areas: carbon cycle science, atmospheric composition, air quality
•	Demonstrated experience performing atmospheric retrievals from high resolution spectral measurements
•	Demonstrated experience with statistically-based validation of remote sensing datasets against independent measurements
•	Strong programming skills in one or more languages
•	Advanced knowledge of optimal estimation (Bayesian) approach for remote sensing
•	Excellent oral (including public speaking) and written communication skills
•	Strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated experience of working in a team environment

The following qualifications are preferred:
