University of British Columbia*

The Department of Earth, Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences at the University
of British Columbia invites applications for a Post-doctoral Fellow in the
field of contaminant hydrogeology or geochemistry to join our Energy and
Environment Research initiative (http://eeri.ubc.ca). The principal tasks
are to support research into the environmental effects of shale-gas
development in British Columbia; with particular focus on fugitive natural
gas including migration processes. The successful candidate will be
expected to prepare and publish peer-reviewed papers and reports for
funders, pursue research in the lab and field, help support graduate
students, organize field work, and liaise with local community groups,
First Nations, industry and provincial agencies. There is an opportunity to
contribute to other projects in the UBC hydrogeology group.

*Minimum Requirements**:* A Ph.D. in the field of contaminant hydrogeology,
geochemistry, or related, and a record of research competence demonstrated
by sustained publication in the peer-reviewed international scientific
literature is required. Additionally, we seek a candidate with significant
experience conducting hydrogeologic field investigations (including
drilling supervision, monitoring well installation and hydraulic
testing/sampling) as well as experience characterizing and interpreting
dissolved gases in groundwater. Some knowledge of and experience in
reactive-transport modeling and/or multiphase flow would also be considered
an asset. The ideal candidate will be independent, self-motivated, have
excellent oral and written communication skills, be well organized and be a
team player. A one-year appointment will begin as soon as a suitable
candidate has been identified; the appointment can be extended for one or
more years. Salary is dependent upon educational level and experience; the
starting salary is $60,000.00 CAD per annum + benefits.

Applications, including a 1 page cover letter, CV, copies of two relevant
publications, and the names, e-mails, and phone numbers of three referees
should be sent to Dana Caudle, Head's Coordinator, Department of Earth,
Ocean and Atmospheric Sciences, The University of British Columbia, 2207
Main Mall, Vancouver, BC, V6T 1Z4 e-mail: headsec at eoas.ubc.ca. The
application deadline is March 17, 2019 but it will be extended if a
suitable candidate has not been found.
