Two postdoctoral positions at ECCC

The Climate Research Division of Environment and Climate Change Canada (ECCC) is looking to hire two postdoctoral researchers, who have graduated within the last 3 (three) years with a doctoral degree in a field of natural sciences.

Both appointments will be for 3 years (annually renewed, pending availability of funding), within the Climate Chemistry Measurements and Research (CCMR)

Section, and focused on understanding atmospheric greenhouse gases at subnational scale, specifically in urban areas and from infrastructure emissions in Canada.

1. Combining atmospheric observations of greenhouse gases and air pollutant in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area.

Core tasks involved:

- Analyze atmospheric observations and high-resolution atmospheric modelling data to interpret results as well as to conduct inverse modelling work to estimate greenhouse gas emissions in urbanized areas.

- Contribute to the success of the WMO-IG3IS (https://ig3is.wmo.int/) demonstration project on urban greenhouse gas monitoring in Toronto by translating scientific findings into policy-relevant information.

- Present research results at national and international conferences and in peer-reviewed journal articles.

2. Ground-based total column monitoring of greenhouse gases in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area and emissions from infrastructure.

Core tasks involved:

- Contribute to the expansion of CCMR's subnational scale greenhouse gas monitoring by supporting the measurements, data processing and analysis of novel total column observations in the GTHA of CO2, CO and CH4

- Optimize existing modelling framework to use total column data over the GTHA region in GEM-MACH and FLEXPART in collaboration with other ECCC scientists.

- Present research results at national and international conferences and in peer-reviewed journal articles.

Hiring is conducted through the official Government of Canada Postdoctoral Research Program (PRP) inventory. Interested candidates are encouraged to apply before September 15th: https://www.nrcan.gc.ca/careers/17880

Additional information (including specific requirements) will follow via the PRP portal.
