Tenure Track Organic Chemist
The Williams College Chemistry Department invites applications for a tenure-track position in organic chemistry at the assistant professor level beginning in July 2020. We are especially interested in candidates who can contribute to the intellectual vibrancy and diversity of the academic community through their research, teaching and service, and we welcome applications from members of traditionally underrepresented groups in the sciences. Enthusiasm for teaching, mentoring, and advising a diverse population of students is essential. Williams College is a liberal arts institution with a long history of excellence in the sciences, and an equal emphasis on teaching and scholarship. The Chemistry Department, with 13 faculty members and graduating about 35-40 majors each year, has extensive resources and facilities for teaching and research. For more information about the department, job expectations, and hiring timeline see: https://chemistry.williams.edu/ <https://chemistry.williams.edu/>.

The successful candidate will have a strong commitment both to teaching at the undergraduate level and to developing a research program. We seek applicants who can contribute to courses in organic chemistry at the introductory level, upper-level courses related to their subspecialty, and courses for non-science majors. A common semester’s teaching load includes complete responsibility for one lecture and two laboratory sections in addition to the supervision of student research projects. Preference will be given to applicants who can develop a dynamic and productive experimental research program in organic chemistry (broadly defined) that actively involves students, with start-up funds available. We seek someone who will complement existing curricular and research offerings. Participation in relevant interdisciplinary programs such as Environmental Studies, Public Health, Biochemistry & Molecular Biology, or Science & Technology Studies is welcome.

Candidates should hold a Ph.D. degree by September 2020, and postdoctoral experience is preferred. We anticipate appointment at the assistant professor level, although a more senior appointment may be possible under special circumstances. All applications should be submitted online through Interfolio at http://apply.interfolio.com/65964 <http://apply.interfolio.com/65964>. Complete applications must include: a letter of application addressed to Professor Sarah Goh (Chair, Chemistry Department), a curriculum vitae, a statement of teaching and mentoring philosophy, a description of research projects and plans for the training and development of undergraduate researchers, and three letters of recommendation. In the application, we ask candidates to speak specifically to promoting an inclusive community and to working effectively with a student population that is broadly diverse with regard to gender, race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation, and religion. Full consideration will be give to applications received by September 30, 2019.

All offers of employment are contingent upon completion of a background check. Further information is available here: https://dean-faculty.williams.edu/prospective-faculty/background-check-policy/ <https://dean-faculty.williams.edu/prospective-faculty/background-check-policy/>.

Williams College is a coeducational liberal arts institution located in the Berkshire Hills of western Massachusetts. The college has built its reputation on outstanding teaching and scholarship, and on the academic excellence of its approximately 2,000 students. Please visit the Williams College website (https://www.williams.edu <https://www.williams.edu/>) for more information. Beyond meeting fully its legal obligations for non-discrimination, Williams College is committed to building a diverse and inclusive community where members from all backgrounds can live, learn, and thrive.
