The Department of Environmental Science in the College of Arts & Sciences at American University invites applications for a full-time, tenure-line position at the rank of Associate or Full Professor, beginning August 1, 2020. Advanced pre-tenure Assistant Professors with a strong record of funding are also encouraged to apply.

Candidates must possess a Ph.D.; those with an outstanding record of external funding will be the most competitive. A successful candidate will have a strong record of research and potential for, or evidence of, excellence in teaching. We will consider all areas of environmental research, but we are particularly interested in environmental scientists working at the interface between global environmental change and public health. For this position, we seek an environmental scientist who could work on issues such as the impacts of climate change and environmental degradation on food and water supplies, human health, and related issues. Given American University’s recently instituted interdisciplinary master’s program in data science, we are particularly interested in candidates who use computational approaches to large datasets. American University is investing in the sciences and will have a new science building opening in 2020 plus is in the process of approving a new PhD program in Biomedical and Environmental Health.

The position offers opportunities to collaborate with a diverse and interdisciplinary group of environmental and sustainability researchers across the university. The candidate will be expected to teach and mentor both undergraduate and graduate students, and also participate in departmental, college, and university activities and service.

Salary and benefits are competitive. Review of applications will begin on September 30, 2019. Please submit applications via: http://apply.interfolio.com/66290 These should include: cover letter, statements of research and teaching, curriculum vitae, names of three to five references, up to 5 recent publications, and teaching evaluations, if available.
