The Air Quality Program is looking to fill a Senior Air Monitoring Specialist (Environmental Specialist 4) position. This position is located in Bellevue, WA.

The Senior Air Monitoring Specialist position serves as a senior environmental section specialist in program specific environmental laws, environmental regulations, and related activities in order to protect, preserve, and enhance air resources and public health. The position makes environmental (air quality) assessment decisions involving multiple stakeholders and that have significant public health, environmental protection, economic, and political consequences.

The position uses in-depth, advanced scientific knowledge and functions independently to implement and manage air quality assessments and analyze air quality data. These data and analyses are essential to the Air Quality Program's core work to:

* Characterize air quality in communities throughout Washington.

* Evaluate the effects of air pollution on public health.

* Determine attainment of the National Ambient Air Quality Standards.

*         Determine air quality trends.

* Assess the effectiveness of clean air strategies and air pollution control programs.

* Develop policies and strategies to reduce the risk and impacts of air pollution.

*         Develop state implementation plans.

This position has a focus on the implementation of national near-road nitrogen dioxide, fine and coarse particulate, and PM2.5 chemical speciation monitoring programs within Ecology's Northwest region. This work includes coordinating with and providing technical assistance to local, state and federal agencies, industry, academia, contractors, and the public.

We're looking for someone who understands the value of consistent routine for the sake of collecting good data. We want to be able to set a clock by your work habits, and we want the words "clean audit" and "no findings" to make you pump your fists with excitement. This position requires driving, sometimes to beautiful places, but often through dense traffic to our urban, near-road monitoring site. The person in this position must be equally comfortable working alone in the outdoors and collaborating with coworkers in the office. We are a fun, purpose-driven team. We take pride in being part of statewide and national networks that help preserve and protect human health and the environment.
