Office of Air Monitoring, Field Operations Section
 This is an environmental position that reports directly to the Environmental Administrator of the Field Operations Section in the Office of Air Monitoring.  This position operates and maintains ambient air monitoring sites and collects legally defensible data in the First Coast Territory area.   It may also assist in the operation, setup and repair of air monitoring equipment in other areas of the state.  This position requires being a team player, displaying a cooperative attitude, and achieving goals identified in the Division's Business Plan.
 Makes routine visits to the sites, as needed, to include:  maintenance of the site and instrument logs and preventive maintenance schedules; performs sample filter checking/changing, calibrates the instruments as required, performs routine quality control checks on the instruments as required, and performs specified preventive maintenance operations.  Assist with repairs to air monitoring sites and equipment.
 Polls the sites daily and reviews the daily report displaying hourly data, previous night's automatic calibration report and power failure report to confirm satisfactory operation. Takes corrective action if any problems are detected in the daily polling.  Reviews polled data to insure the sites were polled and data are stored locally.  Tracks questionable or lost data.
 Maintains and checks the site heating/cooling system operation to include cleaning and replacing of filters, maintain grounds around the air monitoring shelter, keeps shelter interior clean, and maintains and cleans the sample manifolds.
 Review technical documents, participate in performance and systems audits, assist with site reviews, participate in software/hardware enhancement analysis, and prepare monthly and quarterly data reports, as needed.
 Performs other duties and assignments as requested by the supervisor or designee.
 Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree with a major in one of the physical or natural science fields or engineering or a two-year technical degree with at least two years of technical experience.  The hiring manager may qualify actual experience in ambient air monitoring field operations, internships, and advanced degrees as substitutes for stated education and experience levels.
 Valid driver's license
 Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Essential:
Knowledge of environmental and scientific concepts, terminology and principles
 Knowledge of operational engineering and scientific concepts
 Knowledge of maintenance and troubleshooting of micro-electronics, pneumatics, electro-mechanical and test equipment
 Skilled in installing, operating, calibrating, and repairing and maintaining a variety of scientific measuring devices
 Skilled in mechanical and electronic test equipment
 Skilled in analytical and meteorological instrumentation and related air monitoring equipment
 Skilled in performing basic math calculations
 Skilled in using computer operations (i.e., the Internet and the Microsoft Office Suite {word processing, worksheets, etc.})
 Skilled in database programs and records maintenance
 Skilled in analyzing and interpreting technical data
 Skilled in problem solving and preparing technical reports and documents
 Ability to read and accurately interpret technical manuals and procedures
 Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
 Ability to be organized and detail oriented
 Ability to independently plan, organize, coordinate, and complete work assignments in a timely manner
 Ability to understand, interpret and apply rules, policies, and procedures in a reasonable manner
 Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others
 Ability to work well with others and contribute to the success of the organization
 Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds
 Ability to successfully interact with air monitoring professionals, consultants, the public, and internal personnel in a tactful and courteous manner
 Ability to travel
 Ability to operate a vehicle, safely and in compliance with traffic laws and regulations in the performance of job duties
 Preferred:
Knowledge of state and federal air monitoring regulations
 Skilled in preparing detailed technical documentation and standard operating procedures
Exceptional verbal and written skills
 Experience interpreting and applying environmental rules, regulations, policies and procedures
 Possess a professional writing certification
 NOTE:  Salary will be commensurate based on the applicant's qualifications and/or work experience.
