Essential Duties
- Conduct creative research in the field of atmospheric modeling.
- Develop, validate and apply computer models of urban-scale and complex terrain atmospheric transport, diffusion, deposition and effects of hazardous material.
- Analyze model and observational datasets relevant to the NARAC, and/or wind energy applications.
- Document research by publishing papers in peer-reviewed journals and present technical results at scientific conferences.
- Collaborate with others in a multidisciplinary team environment to accomplish research goals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications
- Recent PhD in atmospheric science; mechanical, civil or environmental engineering, or a closely related field.
- Experience in one or more of the following areas:  urban dispersion modeling, atmospheric science, turbulence and diffusion modeling, nuclear/radiological sources and effects, regional atmospheric flow, atmospheric boundary layer, computational fluid dynamics, large eddy simulation, atmospheric chemistry, aerosol science, field data analysis, and health physics.
- Experience with numerical methods and model development.
- Familiarity with programing languages including Fortran, Python, MATLAB.
- Experience conducting research in atmospheric science, engineering or closely related field, and travel as required to collaborate with researchers.
- Experience with urban-scale simulation in one or more of the following areas: atmospheric transport and dispersion, aerosol science, or large-eddy simulation.
- Experience with large model and observational datasets, modern programming environments, and visualization techniques.
- Proficient verbal and written communication skills, as evidenced by published results and presentations.


Desired Qualifications
- Experience with uncertainty quantification, ensembles, statistical analysis, microphysics or atmospheric boundary layer turbulence, nuclear/radiological sources and effects.
- Familiarity with GPU programming, MPI/ OpenMP for supercomputing.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.
Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.
If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.
Note:   This is a two-year Postdoctoral appointment with the possibility of extension to a maximum of three years.  Eligible candidates are recent PhDs within five years of the month of the degree award at time of hire date.
