The School of Meteorology at the University of Oklahoma (OU) invites applications for two faculty positions: 1) a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level and 2) a tenured faculty member with the rank of Associate Professor or Professor to serve as Williams Chair in Meteorology. 1)    Faculty Position in Physical Meteorology
The School invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level to begin in the academic year of 2019-2010. The School is seeking candidates with a focus on atmospheric radiation and remote sensing; exceptional candidates in related areas (e.g., cloud, optical, or thermodynamic properties of the atmosphere) may also be considered. Applicants must demonstrate an exceptional potential to establish a strong research program in atmospheric science with emphasis on physical meteorology. Equally important, they must have a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring at the undergraduate and graduate levels, plus a strong desire to participate in serve to the School, University, and atmospheric science community. 2)    Williams Chair in Meteorology
The School is seeking an outstanding individual to serve as Williams Chair in Meteorology. The Chair is expected to play a leadership role in advancing research focused on the linkages between weather and climate at sub-seasonal to longer time-scales. The position is available on August 15, 2019. The new Williams Chair will be appointed in the School as a tenured faculty member with the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. The Williams Chair provides salary support, as well as discretionary funds to support the Chair’s research activities. The successful applicant must be an internationally recognized scientist with a Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences or related field. The Williams Chair is expected to carry out a vigorous program of teaching, research, and service that attracts exceptional students and scientists, and prepares them to become future leaders in the atmospheric sciences. Clearly demonstrated scholarly attainment, primarily but not exclusively through teaching, research, and scholarly activity, is expected. The ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of leaders within the region, nationally, and internationally is also desirable.
