Postdoctoral Fellow, UV-B Monitoring and Research Program (UVMRP), Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory, CSU

The USDA UV-B Monitoring and Research Program (UVMRP) at the Natural Resource Ecology Laboratory, Colorado State University seeks a full-time Postdoctoral Fellow. The successful candidate will join a small group of engineers, programmers and scientists and conduct research related to the levels of solar UV irradiance reaching the Earth's surface. Individuals with experience and/or research interests in surface radiation climatology, remote sensing applications, radiative transfer modelling, and/or the calibration of solar radiation sensors (e.g, radiometers) are strongly encouraged to apply. This position is supported by a USDA grant that funds the UVMRP and operation of a UV and visible radiation monitoring network that collects direct, diffuse and total solar radiation at 40 locations in the US, Canada and New Zealand.

Qualifications: The successful candidate must have earned a Ph.D. degree in atmospheric science, applied physics, environmental science, or a related discipline. Expertise in the transfer of solar radiation in the atmosphere and/or the remote sensing of atmospheric parameters influencing the amount of solar radiation reaching the Earth's surface is expected. Preferred Qualifications: Demonstrated experience and skills with programming languages such as IDL, Matlab, Python, C++, and/or FORTRAN for numerical computation is strongly encouraged. Analytical skills in model testing/evaluation and a familiarity with radiation transfer models and satellite data is also preferred.

This long-term program has been running for over 20 years. Funding of the position is dependent upon continued federal support that is renewed on an annual basis. The position will be filled at the Postdoctoral Fellow level with a salary in the range of $44,000-$50,000 per year. Start date will be as soon as practical upon selection of a candidate.

To apply, submit a statement of interest in this position, including how your experience fulfills qualification requirements, a resume, and names and contact information for three references, including, but not limited to, current and/or past supervisors, at the following address: http://jobs.colostate.edu/postings/60527 References will not be contacted without prior notification to candidates. For full consideration, applications should be submitted by November 2, 2018.
