Dear colleagues,

One funded PhD position is available in the Severe Weather and Climate group in Stanford's Earth System Science department. I am seeking a creative, hard-working student interested in fluid dynamics and thermodynamics questions related to storms in a range of planetary climates. Qualified students will have high marks in math and physics classes, and independent research experience is desirable. More information can be found at storms.stanford.edu<http://storms.stanford.edu/>.

Students will have the possibility of participating in a hurricane field campaign if they choose to pursue tropical cyclone-related questions, which is the primary focus of my current research. Other possible topics include monsoon dynamics, supercell/tornadogenesis, and severe weather occurrence thresholds in a warming world, and students will have considerable freedom to shape their own projects. Potential applicants are encouraged to contact me in advance of applying (oneillm at stanford.edu<mailto:oneillm at stanford.edu>).

Applications for Fall 2019 are currently open and due December 4th. Information about the application can be found here: https://gradadmissions.stanford.edu/applying. Please forward to possible qualified candidates.

Regards,

Morgan
