The University of Miami is considered among the top tier institutions of
higher education in the U.S. for its academic excellence, superior medical
care, and cutting-edge research. At the U, we are committed to attracting a
talented workforce to support our common purpose of transforming lives
through teaching, research, and service. Through our values of Diversity,
Integrity, Responsibility, Excellence, Compassion, Creativity and Teamwork
(DIRECCT) we strive to create an environment where everyone contributes in
making UM a great place to work. We are one of the largest private employers
in Miami-Dade County; home to more than 13,400 faculty and staff from all
over the world.

The Cooperative Institute for Marine and Atmospheric Studies (CIMAS) of the
University of Miami, Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science
(RSMAS), invites applications for a Postdoctoral Associate position in
Atmospheric Science. The position will contribute to applications of HRD's
research to improve the communications of hazardous weather associated with
landfalling tropical cyclones using the Forecasting a Continuum of
Environmental Threats (FACETs) approach. FACETs is a next-generation
hazardous weather paradigm that utilizes continuously-updating,
probabilistic information as its foundation. FACETs combines physical and
social science research to support a system that is modern, flexible, and
designed to communicate clear and simple hazardous weather, water, and
climate information to serve society. FACETs supports NOAA's Weather-Ready
Nation initiative to build community resilience in the face of increasing
vulnerability to extreme weather, water, and climate events. The incumbent
will work in close collaboration with researchers at NOAA's Atlantic
Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML), NOAA National Severe
Storms Laboratory (NSSL), NOAA's Hazardous Weather Testbed (HWT), as well as
operational forecasters at the National Hurricane Center (NHC) and National
Weather Service (NWS) Weather Forecast Offices (WFOs). This position is
expected to blend naturally with ongoing efforts within OAR's FACETs
research community. The dynamic research and close proximity to an
operational working environment at HRD, NHC, and NSSL will provide a
successful candidate with ample opportunities for career advancement.

Requirements:
. Must have a Ph.D. Degree in Atmospheric Science or an equivalent subject
having performed research in the area of tropical cyclones and familiarity
with social-behavioral science focused on weather and climate risk,
particularly in communicating forecast uncertainty and hazardous weather
warnings.
. He/she must demonstrate skill in statistical analysis, qualitative data
collection and analysis, and tropical cyclone research.
. Experience working with large datasets in Python, NCL, IDL, and/or Fortran
is desirable.
. We encourage motivated individuals with excellent written and verbal
communication skills to apply.
. Must be an easy relationship builder, creative, intelligent, and a
flexible, supportive team member.

Curriculum Vitae and the contact information for 3 people who can provide
letters of recommendation are required.
