The Department of Earth Sciences at Montana State University invites
applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant Professor of Geographic Planning and Sustainability. We seek an active teacher and researcher in the broad area of planning and sustainability who can contribute to our earth science program in areas of social-environmental systems and who can take advantage of the region’s planning challenges (amenity-driven growth, water resources planning, rural decline, etc.) in their teaching and research. We seek someone who can contribute to interdisciplinary research initiatives and to planning-related programs across campus, has demonstrated skills in GIS, in geographical planning with a sustainability focus, and is eager to build a nationally competitive, externally-funded research and teaching program that supports undergraduate/graduate education. The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses that may include: Geographical Planning, Land Use Planning, Urban Geography, and upper-division/graduate courses in their specialty area and contribute to doctoral training. The department strives to maintain a rich and diverse faculty group and women and underrepresented minorities are encouraged to apply.
