Postdoctoral Fellow Position at University of Toronto

Passive Air Sampling of Gaseous Mercury and Development of Approaches to Measure and Model Surface-Atmosphere Mercury Fluxes

The Mitchell (www.utsc.utoronto.ca/~cmitchell<http://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/~cmitchell> ) and Wania (www.utsc.utoronto.ca/labs/wania<http://www.utsc.utoronto.ca/labs/wania>) research groups at the University of Toronto have an opening for a postdoctoral fellow interested in the measurement and modeling of surface-atmosphere exchange of gaseous mercury and in the further development of passive air sampling for mercury. This is a new project related to our groups? recent invention of a precise passive air sampler for gaseous mercury and our interest in its potential use in micrometeorological and/or modeling approaches to estimate gaseous mercury fluxes. The successful candidate will be expected to develop mercury flux estimation approaches that take advantage of passive sampling measurements in a variety of environments, ranging from urban systems to Canada?s High Arctic. Creative additions to this core research purpose from outstanding candidates will also be supported and encouraged.

The position will be based within the Department of Physical and Environmental Sciences on the Scarborough campus of the University of Toronto. The University of Toronto ranks #1 in Canada and #20 globally in the most recent U.S. News & World Report's rankings of the world's best universities. Toronto is a large, culturally-diverse, safe and exciting city in which to live and work.

Qualifications: The position requires a Ph.D. in a relevant field of the physical and/or chemical environmental sciences, strong quantitative and empirical skills, and a good record of scholarly publication. The ideal candidate will have experience in micrometeorological and/or atmospheric modelling approaches relevant to the quantification of surface-atmosphere fluxes of matter and/or energy.

Compensation: The initial appointment will be for one year, with continuation through a second year contingent on first-year success. A competitive salary and benefits will be offered based on experience and qualifications.

To Apply: Applicants should send in a single, collated pdf to Professor Carl Mitchell via email at carl.mitchell at utoronto.ca: (1) a cover letter explaining your interest in and suitability for the position, (2) a CV, (3) the names and contact information of at least two academic references, and (4) at least one representative publication.
