*MSc position available in the Environmental Biogeochemistry Lab
<https://janicebrahney.weebly.com/>**) in the Watershed Sciences Department
at Utah State University*
*Project: Dust generation and composition from the Great Salt Lake Playa*
*Responsibilities:* The successful candidate will examine the spatial and
temporal variability in dust composition, generation, and transport from
the Great Salt Lake (GSL) playa. Increasing consumptive water use in
combination with drought is driving the GSL to the lowest levels seen in
over 160 years, exposing vast areas of lakebed to erosion and entrainment.
The GSL is surrounded by a large population center making increased dust
entrainment as well as dust composition of high concern. The successful
candidates will have opportunities to develop their own ideas within the
broader context of the project.
- Analytical laboratory experience

- Interest in communicating with diverse stakeholders
*How to Apply*

*About Logan and Utah State University*
Utah State University is located in the city of Logan, Utah, a town with
approximately 50,000 residents. Situated in a valley between the Wellsville
and Bear River mountain ranges, Logan offers numerous opportunities for
outdoor activities including local ski resorts, biking, and hiking trails.
Logan is just a short drive to Salt Lake City, as well as many National
Parks, Monuments, and Conservation Areas. The low cost of living makes this
area an attractive place to live, play, and work.
Precisely because we're in the same boat, we should be glad that not
everyone is standing on the same side
