Tenure-Track Faculty Position

Department of Atmospheric Sciences

University of North Dakota

 

The University of North Dakota (UND) is seeking qualified applicants for a
tenure-track faculty position within the Department of Atmospheric Sciences.
The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and
graduate courses; demonstrated expertise and enthusiasm for teaching is
highly desirable. The candidate will also be expected to develop a program
of externally-funded research that ties in with one or more of the UND Grand
Challenges <http://und.edu/research/about/grand-challenges/index.cfm> . The
ability to collaborate with scientists within and outside the department is
essential. A Ph.D. in atmospheric sciences or a related discipline is
required, and a proven record of publication and external funding is highly
preferred. We are seeking in particular an individual with demonstrated
expertise in one or more of the following areas: Boundary Layer Meteorology,
Hydrometeorology, Climate Systems/Modeling, or Airborne Research.   This
position will be filled at the Assistant Professor level.

 

The Department of Atmospheric Sciences is part of the John D. Odegard School
of Aerospace Sciences at UND and offers degree programs leading to the B.S.,
M.S. and Ph.D. in Atmospheric Sciences.  UND is a UCAR Member institution.
Fall 2017 enrollments included 56 undergraduate and 32 graduate students in
these programs. Teaching and research is carried out by 10 faculty members;
current areas of faculty expertise are listed at
http://atmos.und.edu/Research/. Facilities include a 5-cm wavelength Doppler
weather radar with dual polarization capability, a Cessna Citation research
aircraft, and two instrumented ground research sites.  Cooperative programs
are ongoing with the National Weather Service Weather Forecast Office in

The UND Computational Research Center (CRC) offers a variety of research
computing resources. These systems include a 40 teraflop (TF) high
performance computing (HPC) cluster, a 180 TF private research cloud, and a
3D stereoscopic visualization lab. These systems offer access to GPFS
parallel storage, and are built upon 10 Gbps Ethernet, FDR InfiniBand, and
EDR InfiniBand networks. UND is a founding institution of the Midwest Big
Data Hub, and participates in the XSEDE Campus Champions program.

open until filled.  The start date for this position is 1 January 2019.
Salary will be commensurate with experience. A startup package will be
provided to the successful candidate.
