Senior Research Scientist – Grade 8 (39,992 – 47,722)
Fixed term (3.5 years)
Based at the University of Leeds

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have a background in cloud physics or dynamics with expertise in satellite remote sensing of
convective clouds or a related field? Do you want to further your career in the National Centre for Atmospheric Science and one of the UK’s leading research and intensive Universities? As part of the major new Global Challenge Research Fund (GCRF) African Science for Weather Information and Forecasting Techniques (African-SWIFT)<https://africanswift.org/> project, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Research Scientist to lead research into determining cloud physical properties of deep convective clouds in West and East Africa using satellite instruments with a view to improving nowcasting capability. This post is a key leadership role within the programme to expand the research of NCAS and ICAS to include remote sensing of moist convection.

Research Scientist in Storm Nowcasting – Grade 7 (32,548 – 38,833)
Fixed term (3 years)
Based at the University of Leeds

Are you an ambitious researcher looking for your next challenge? Do you have a background in nowcasting, remote sensing or dynamics of deep convection, atmospheric
dynamics, or a related field? Do you want to further your career in the National Centre for Atmospheric Science and one of the UK’s leading research-intensive universities? As part of the major new African Science for Weather Information and Forecasting Techniques (African-SWIFT)<https://africanswift.org/> project an exciting opportunity has arisen for a scientist to lead research into developing science of deep moist convection for nowcasting in West and East Africa. The long-lived organised convective systems found in these regions, combined with very limited numerical weather prediction (NWP) skill, means there is an opportunity and need for improved nowcasting. This post will develop understanding of storm dynamics and predictability in order to improve nowcasts.
