Title: Visiting Assistant Professor of Biology/Ecology
One-year Visiting Faculty Position with possibility of conversion to Tenure-Track position in Biology/Ecology

The Department of Natural Sciences at Marymount Manhattan College<http://www.mmm.edu/departments/natural-sciences/> in New York, NY, is recruiting a one-year full-time Visiting Assistant Professor in Biology/Ecology with emphasis in Urban Ecology. The primary instructional responsibilities will be to teach lecture and labs for General Biology II (organismal biology for majors), introductory Environmental Science, and a field-based freshman seminar in Urban Ecology.  Other potential teaching responsibilities include upper-level Ecology and Conservation Biology, and non-major science courses in the General Education curriculum. The teaching load will be 12 credit hours each semester. Ability to teach urban/environmental policy courses across the curriculum is preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  *   Develop an effective teaching style informed by best practices in education literature
  *   Perform data collection related to monitoring of program and general education learning outcomes as needed to fulfill assessment requirements and to monitor student success
  *   Communicate effectively with students regarding course content, assignments, and exams
  *   Keep regular office hours for students, provide tutoring assistance as needed, and perform student advising duties
  *   Teach a field-based freshman seminar with a focus on urban ecology/ecosystem science in NYC
  *   Mentor and advise freshman science majors
  *   Work closely with upper-class undergraduate Peer Leader in freshman seminar course
  *   Participate in College programs to recruit and retain students
  *   For conversion to tenure-track, an active scholarly research program with undergraduates and service on College-wide committees will be expected.

Qualifications

*     Doctorate (Ph.D. or equivalent) in Biology or closely related field

*         Minimum two years of college-level teaching experience

*         Ability to teach courses in the organismal biology/ecology field

*         Experience in field-based teaching and learning

*         Specialization in Urban Ecology preferred

*         Ability to teach urban/ environmental policy classes preferred
