The Department of Water Resources and Environmental Modeling at the Czech University of Life Sciences, Prague, invites researchers who are interested in the multi-scale fluctuations of water cycle to apply for two fully-funded PhD positions.

The first position will focus in the spatiotemporal variability of precipitation and will be partially related to the coming EARTHCare satellite mission of the European Space Agency. Applicants should have background in meteorology, statistics and/or computer science. Experience in remote sensing applications and/or machine learning techniques are going to be considered as an asset.

The second position is linked with stochastic analysis of past hydroclimatic variability. Paleoclimatic reconstructions will be used to examine the range of past fluctuations and their applicability in the study of the intensification of water cycle. Ideal applicants should come from the fields of hydrology and/or statistics, while some experience in paleoclimatology and/or numerical modeling is also desirable.

Additionally both candidates should have: a) Strong skills in programming (preferably R), b) Experience with hydroclimatic datasets, c) Excellent communication skills in written and oral English.

Closing date for applications is March 30th, 2018. Please send your application to Dr. Yannis Markonis (markonis at fzp.czu.cz<mailto:markonis at fzp.czu.cz>), including a motivation letter, curriculum vitae, as well as information on any teaching experience, scientific publications and names of two referees. Both positions are expected to start in Fall 2018.
