Brief Job Description (essential functions of the job):





In January 2015, Mayor Martin J Walsh released the second update of the City of Boston's Climate Action Plan to reduce carbon emissions and prepare Boston for climate change. In January 2017, Mayor Walsh committed the City of Boston to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050 and launched the Carbon Free Boston (CFB) initiative. The Climate Program Manager will support programs to achieve the Mayor's goals of carbon neutrality and a healthy environment.





The Climate Program Manager reports to the Director of Climate and Environmental Planning in the Environment Department, and interacts with all segments of Boston's municipal government and of the Boston community.



Responsibilities:





Develops and manages climate mitigation and air pollution policies and programs in support of the Mayor's goals of carbon neutrality and a healthy environment



  *   Provides staff support for the Air Pollution Control Commission (APCC) in regulating air quality, noise, and parking supply and addressing climate change and sustainability issues in Boston
  *   Assists residents, businesses, and institutions
  *   Maintains community greenhouse gas inventory
  *   Supports the development of air-pollution and carbon-emission reduction metrics
  *   Collaborates with other municipal departments and agencies, and support them in integrating air pollution and greenhouse gas emissions reduction into their programs and initiatives.
  *   Assists in coordinating internal and external activities related to achieving Boston's climate and air pollution goals.
  *   Identifies obstacles to increased carbon-mitigation activity by individuals, small and large businesses, and institutions and develop strategies to reduce those obstacles.
  *   Performs related work as required.

Minimum Entrance Qualifications:



  *   Two (2) years of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience in environmental science or policy, climate science, sustainability, urban planning, engineering, business or a related field
  *   A bachelor's degree in a related field is required. A master's degree in a related field is preferred and may be substituted for the two (2) years of the required experience.
  *   Strong verbal, written, and presentation skills.
  *   Attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple tasks
  *   Strong organizational skills with the ability to work with diverse interests and backgrounds.
  *   Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to work with diverse interests and backgrounds.
  *   Ability to work effectively as part of a team
  *   Energy, creativity, and entrepreneurship
  *   Ability to exercise good judgement and focus on detail as required by the job



Boston Residency Required

Union/Salary Plan/Grade: MO-6 ($48,000-$68,000)
