Position Overview

The Research Associate will promote excellence in remote sensing science
within the Department of Geosciences and across Boise State University. This
position will 1) help faculty mentor undergraduate and graduate students in
remote sensing; 2) participate as an active member of a research team; 3)
manage the remote sensing lab including a highly successful cost center. The
position is a permanently funded 12-mos position.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

 

Provide mentorship for students and participate in research team:

.        Be supportive and inclusive in student research success, and
contribute to the knowledge-base of remote sensing science, including study
design, field implementation, and analysis with students.

.        Supervise and mentor undergraduate student researchers. Co-mentor
graduate students and support their professional development.

.        Serve as liaison to and collaborate with, faculty and students
outside Geosciences for remote sensing science.

.        Author or co-author publications related to the remote sensing
research.

.        Actively assist in the pursuit of funding opportunities that
sustain student research in remote sensing.

.        Serve as a contact for remote sensing-related questions and
assistance with our partners outside the university.

.        Assist students with data management.

 

Manage remote sensing lab:

.        Purchase, inventory, and maintain equipment (terrestrial laser
scanning, spectroradiometers, UAVs, GPS) and software

.        Track all equipment use and billing for cost/recharge center

.        Provide training on equipment and software for students and faculty
across campus

.        Possibly conduct workshops on equipment and software

.        Manage project data

 

Minimum Qualifications:

.        Master's degree or equivalent experience in remote sensing or
related field

.        Demonstrated remote sensing expertise including collecting and
processing multispectral, hyperspectral, and/or lidar data

.        Demonstrated expertise with geospatial and time series data

.        Project management experience

 

Preferred Qualifications:

.        Expertise in field and remote sensing instrumentation

.        1 year experience in a similar role

.        Demonstrated products (code, publications, tools, workshops) of
skills

.        Experience with physical-based modeling

.        Excellent written and verbal communication skills

.        Interest and/or experience working with partners both within and
outside the university

.        Interest, experience, and/or ability to promote a climate of

Physical demands: Requires carrying heavy (~25-35 kg) and bulky field
equipment over rugged terrain in all weather conditions (rain, snow, heat,
cold)
