*WRF-Hydro / U.S. National Water Model postdoc position at U-Albany*

The SUNY University at Albany Atmospheric Sciences Research Center (ASRC)
is conducting a search for a postdoctoral associate to investigate water
and land management (esp. irrigation) influences on sub-seasonal weather
predictability in the U.S. The successful candidate will primarily be
tasked with setting-up and carrying out coupled WRF-Hydro simulations, but
additional WRF single column model (SCM) simulations are planned to better
characterize the coupled land-atmosphere pathway through which water and
land management practices affect weather. The planned research will be
conducted in coordination with similarly motivated activities organized
under the Global Energy and Water Exchanges Project (GEWEX) in response to
the World Climate Research Programme’s Water for the Food Baskets of the
World Grand Challenge. The successful candidate will have: strong
scientific coding skills; advanced knowledge of terrestrial hydrology,
land-atmosphere interactions, and boundary layer processes; and advanced
proficiency with WRF and/or WRF-Hydro. Additional experience in land data
assimilation would be advantageous.

To apply, send your CV and a brief cover letter outlining your interest and
qualifications for the position to Dr. Craig R. Ferguson (
crferguson at albany.edu). The position will remain open until filled. There
is a preferred start date of September 2018 or soon thereafter. To be
eligible, applicants must have received their doctoral degree within the
past 3-years. Initial appointment is for one year at $50,000/yr with an
opportunity for extension pending satisfactory performance.
