LECTURER, GEOGRAPHY AND ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE

The Department of Geography and the Environmental Science Program invite 
applications for a Lecturer with teaching responsibilities in both 
programs. The academic home for the appointment will be the Department 
of Geography. This position is a continuing teaching (non-research) 
appointment, preferably starting 1 January 2019. Applicants should have 
a PhD and training in the natural sciences relevant to this position. 
They should demonstrate excellence, or the promise of excellence, in 
teaching, and demonstrate a commitment to apply experiential learning 
and innovative pedagogy.

In Geography, the successful candidate will mainly teach large enrolment 
geography courses that integrate science and social science perspectives 
(https://www.sfu.ca/students/calendar/2018/summer/courses/geog.html), 
and courses that develop professional communication skills and 
facilitate career development.  The ability to teach core physical 
geography courses will be an asset.

In Environmental Science, the successful candidate will teach core 
environmental science courses (https://www.sfu.ca/evsc/courses.html) and 
a course within the program in their area of specialization. The ability 
to teach quantitative skills will be an asset. Preference will be given 
to candidates who can successfully teach students from a range of 
science and non-science backgrounds.  We seek candidates who will 
contribute positively and constructively to our work environments and 
participate in community-building and collegial governance.
