Director of Sciences

The University of Colorado Boulder Libraries invites applications from collaborative and innovative candidates for the position of Director of Sciences. The Sciences department consists of the Jerry Crail Johnson Earth Sciences and Map Library; L.H. Gemmill Engineering, Mathematics, and Physics Library; and three science librarians in the Norlin Library. The Director develops and implements departmental goals that align with organizational priorities; oversees, coordinates, and communicates departmental policy and practices; and maintains open communication with other Libraries departments. The University of Colorado Boulder has top-ranked programs in Engineering, Geosciences, Astrophysics, and Aerospace, with five Nobel Laureates in sciences since 1989. A significant part of the responsibilities of this position include research and creative work and service in keeping with the tenure standards of the University of Colorado Boulder.

Appointment and Salary:
Successful candidates will be appointed as full-time (12 month), tenure-stream faculty members.  Appointment rank will depend on professional experience. The minimum starting salary is $65,000 plus an additional 15% faculty director stipend. Benefits include 22 working days of vacation, ten paid holidays, liberal sick leave, university group health care plans, group life insurance, TIAA administered retirement/annuity, and support for scholarly/professional activities. Tenured librarians are eligible for sabbatical leave.

Qualifications

Requirements

●       Master’s degree from an ALA accredited program in library and information science (MLIS) or equivalent.
●       Three or more years of progressively responsible professional library experience.
●       Demonstrated ability to advocate for and cultivate an environment that supports diversity, respect, and inclusion.
●       Supervisory experience that promotes collaboration.
●       Demonstrated familiarity with current trends and policy issues in science librarianship.
●       Excellent time and project management skills in concert with the ability to lead effectively.
●       Demonstrated ability to work effectively and creatively to develop partnerships in a complex and rapidly changing community.
●       Experience modeling and encouraging teamwork, collaboration, relationship-building, and mentoring.
●       Experience supporting teaching and learning in libraries.
●       Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
●       Potential for research, scholarly or creative work, and professional service.

Desired Qualifications
Evidence of any of the following will enhance a candidacy:
●       Experience in science librarianship and/or degree in the sciences.
●       Experience with liaison relationships, research services, and content/collections management.
●       Demonstrated leadership, supervision, or change management experience.
●       Demonstrated experience developing collaborations with academic departments and/or other campus communities.
●       Experience integrating new services and/or technologies into libraries.
●       Record of research, scholarly or creative work, and professional service.
