Announcing the 2018 Wilford Gardner IUSS Congress Fellowship Program

The Soil Science Society of America (SSSA) and the U.S. National Committee for Soil Science (USNC/SS), a committee of the National Academy of Sciences which represents all U.S. soil scientists to the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS), announces the Wilford Gardner IUSS Congress Fellowship Program. This program is intended for graduate students and postdoctoral researchers at U.S. institutions who are attending the 20th World Congress of Soil Science (WCSS) in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 12-17, 2018.  The website of the WCSS is https://www.21wcss.org/. The fellowship program is named in honor of the USNC/SS's founding chair and SSSA past-president, Wilford R. Gardner.

Applicants must be first authors of a paper to be presented at the congress (oral or poster) in any area of soil science and related fields, and U.S. citizens or permanent residents enrolled at a U.S. institution. Each fellowship provided under this program will cover up to $1,500 of the costs of the awardee’s participation in the WCSS.

To apply for a fellowship, applicants are requested to submit the following: name, department and university affiliation, title and authors of the paper to be presented at the WCSS, outline of financial plan for attending the meeting (including other sources of funding available to cover the costs), GPA (if applicable), and a one page CV.  The application materials should be submitted electronically as a single PDF file to Ester Sztein (esztein at nas.edu). Only complete applications submitted as a single PDF file will be considered for funding.

DEADLINES:

WCSS abstract submission deadline is January 20, 2018. Abstracts need to be submitted to the Congress by this date in order to apply for the Gardner Fellowship program.

The deadline for applications to this Fellowship program is March 5, 2018, and decisions will be communicated to all applicants by April 6, 2018. Confirmation of the acceptance of your abstract will need to be submitted to us as soon as you receive it.

Cheers,
Asmeret
